Pros
Pro Incredible variety of player combinations (with DLCs)
The main customization in the base game of Barony is choice of class, however with the DLCs (which also add extra classes too) you can also choose a race. The number of combinations (189) of styles is huge, and to a large extent many many of the combinations actually feel actively different because of how both classes and races alter the way you play so much.
Pro Available mod that more than doubles the amount of game
In the base game there is a single route to the bottom passing through the same 5 themes with a single optional side-theme/alternative mid boss. But there's a mod on the steam workshop (called Wicked Rendition) that adds an entirely new parallel route with 5 new themes on, 2 extra themes adding a sub route, every theme has new tiles generation, new enemies, new hidden areas, new rooms, basically new everything.
But not only does the new route add new areas and enemies, but the new route ends with a brand new challenging end boss, has heaps of new items, some extra rare enemies for the bae game, and 4 new classes.
And what's most incredible in my opinion is that none of this content feels out of place in the game, everything from the enviroments, to the enemies, to the items, to the end boss, feel like something that was always a part of the world of the main game.
Pro Extremely low system requirements
Despite the Steam store recommending an i3 processor, you don't even need that much to run Barony. I have been able to play on my Chromebook through the linux virtual machine which has a Intel Celeron N4000, where I only suffered some minor lagging in the last few levels.
Pro Tough but Fair
Barony is a fairly difficult game, especially for beginners, but as you play the game and learn how to deal with everything the game throws at you will realise that everything is within your control to survive, even things that initially feel random and unfair become manageable with experience.
Pro Offers an impressive amount of variety in items and monsters, which keeps the experience fresh
Over 300 items and 130 monsters, WazHack offers a lot of variety that will take a lot of play throughs to experience.
Pro Unique twist on roguelike gameplay where the game takes a side-scrolling approach
A 3D rendered side-scrolling roguelike, makes for some very unique mechanics, thanks to not being top down like many traditional roguelikes. While it will still have the player progress in randomly generated dungeons, exploring for new items and gear, the battle mechanics will be more akin to side scrolling platforming.
Pro Surprising depth
Many approaches and strategies are viable in a simple shell.
Pro Controller support
Cons
Con Costs money to get the full experience
The game asks to spend money on each character type separately to go deeper than 300 feet; cost about $1 each.
Con Some quirks with control scheme and interface
Some specific action in the game are hard to pull off with touch screen, causing the player to move when trying to open menus.
Con Somewhat crude art-style
Graphics are reminiscent of freeware games from the early 2000's.
