When comparing LG 34UM95-P vs Dell UltraSharp U3415W, the Slant community recommends Dell UltraSharp U3415W for most people. In the question“What are the best 27+ inch monitors?” Dell UltraSharp U3415W is ranked 8th while LG 34UM95-P is ranked 9th. The most important reason people chose Dell UltraSharp U3415W is:
The 21:9 aspect ratio, 3440x1440 resolution adds horizontal space which helps with productivity. It allows for two apps to be open at the same time without turning them into a tall, skinny rectangle where you need to scroll back and forth (or, you could have 3 tall skinny windows open at once).

Pros
Pro Split screen abilities
If you install LG's software, you will have access to numerous split screen layouts. Similar to stock Windows, you can snap windows to more pre-set arrangements. Support is included for 4 windows (one in each corner), 3 vertical windows, or 3 windows with one dominant window taking up half of the screen (in either horizontal or vertical configuration).
Pro Good screen uniformity
The display on the 34UM95 provides good uniformity in terms of brightness. The image is nearly symmetrical, and only has a noticeable deviation in the top corners. About 75% of the display is within 5% brightness of the middle set point.
Pro Great viewing angles
As expected with an IPS screen, viewing angles were great. Not major color shifting occurred until 45 degrees - then the image got a bit darker.
Pro Joystick menu control
Instead of separate buttons, there is a single joystick (located in the middle just below the LG logo) which is used to navigate the menus. It can be pushed in 4 directions (up/down/left/right) and can be pushed in which acts as the selection. It is easy to use, and easy to find even in the dark.
Pro Great for productivity
The 21:9 aspect ratio is aimed at productivity users. It fits two programs side-by-side much better than regular wide monitors (16:9), and is pretty much equivalent to a dual monitor layout without adding more displays which requires a powerful GPU. Viewing ultrawide content is fantastic - although not all movies or games make use of the extra space available meaning you could see some vertical black bars on the left and right edges.
Pro Futureproof ports
Thunderbolt 2 is a new technology that allows for high resolution displays as well as insane data transfer speeds at the same time through a single port.
Pro Standard ports
A single USB 3.0 port allows for very fast data transfer. It is supplemented by 2 USB 2.0 ports which can be used for less data hungry applications such as a keyboard and mouse.
Pro Good refresh rate
60Hz is the standard refresh rate for monitors, but not all high resolution monitors are capable of 60Hz. Even with the high resolution, 60Hz is still possible providing you have the right cables.
Pro Decent built-in speakers
The speakers get loud, and offer good quality audio. There are 2 7W speakers facing downward in the bottom bezel. They won't compete with dedicated speakers, but for most users the benefit of less hardware and cables on the desk will outweigh the performance improvement of dedicated speakers. The monitor is very wide (you could say 'ultrawide'), and already takes up lots of horizontal space on desks leaving less room for speakers anyways.
Pro Designed for productivity
The 21:9 aspect ratio, 3440x1440 resolution adds horizontal space which helps with productivity. It allows for two apps to be open at the same time without turning them into a tall, skinny rectangle where you need to scroll back and forth (or, you could have 3 tall skinny windows open at once).
Pro Good adjustability
This monitor can be adjusted up or down 115cm, tilted up 21 degrees, down 5 degrees, or left/right 30 degrees. This lets you use the monitor comfortably in virtually every position.
Pro Light anti-glare coating
By using a light anti-glare (AG) coating, it prevents the screen from being too glossy, but without adding a grainy filter over the screen.
Pro Lots of ports
With an HDMI 2.0, MHL, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, and a DisplayPort out port for easy Daisychaining, the U3415W has lots of connectivity options.
It also has 4 USB 3.0 ports for connecting a mouse, keyboard, and other peripherals to the monitor instead of the computer, allowing for easier access.
Pro Immersive experience
The curved, ultrawide display really helps make the experience immersive. Any games or videos that support the resolution wrap around you, immersing you into the experience even more - especially for racing games or flight simulators.
Cons
Con White glow on dark screens
As with most IPS displays, a white glow can appear around the edges at certain angles for dark images. This is caused by the backlight used in IPS displays, but is only visible in a dark room when the image on the screen is dark.
Con Little adjustment ability
The stand is basic, and only allows for tilt. To adjust the height, you need to unscrew the base, and then re-screw it into the other holes which only adjusts the height a minimal amount. There is no swivel or rotate abilities.
Con Not all content is 21:9 compatible
Not all content will stretch well to fit the Ultrawide resolution. Games or videos that don't support the resolution will have vertical black bars on the left and right sides of the screen which take away the benefit of having an Ultrawide monitor.
