This version only works on Windows, not Linux nor Mac
However, the same author now has a separate version of Greenshot for iOS, which is available (for a small fee) in the Mac App Store at https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/greenshot/id1103915944

Peter J. Mello's Experience
Greenshot is more than just a tool for generating screenshots, it's a comprehensive toolkit for capturing the images AND providing you with a host of intuitive tasks for managing and sharing them as well. While I wish it had a smaller system resource footprint, I also wouldn't want to strip it of any features to accomplish that. For those who need to document user interface moments and processes, I don't believe anything else more useful exists.

ShareX is my go-to tool for screen capture. Multiple file upload options, different screen capture types, and hell, if you wanted, print every image you get! What more could you want?

Capturing (screen, video, a window, etc.) with annotation + automation
Capturing (screen, video, a window, etc.) with annotation + automation makes for some powerful workflows. Annotation is key for research on any project size. Capturing screenshots, editing them ("annotating"), converting to a PNG, removing the background to make a transparent version, saving to google drive, creating large+med+sm sizes, uploading thumbnails, is an example of a workflow you could create. The list goes on... You'll find the same strength & depth in features for image handling also for text, videos, other files by type, and on and on..

I've been using it for almost a year (continuously). The unique problem is just that it is extremely customizable, to the point that you feel overwhelmed about it, but, give it a shot, you won't regret!
