That works but it is no longer portable. It makes this flavor effectively useless for academic work

Yes, I can understand that. Too bad, really. I think there's another one modeled after them that do have footnotes. I just forgot the name.
Yeah, this has been a long-time issue and a lot of people have been asking for it to be added. I have read that some do their own versions of adding footnotes by using Unicode characters or superscript tags. What do you think?
