Ideally under $900, and perhaps I would add most likely fixable if outside of U.S. and does well in hot temperatures (~90s). Thanks!

I had very similar requirements 1.5 yrs ago (especially something durable enough to take a beating while constantly travelling) and ended up with the Thinkpad T450s. Bit out of your price range, but I'd definitely consider checking out cheaper models in the line.
