Honestly, this is just the best, and the most organized way to communicate in this day and age. The text side of things is on point letting you give reactions that don't get in the way, throw your own emotes into your channels, it lets you carry pictures, videos, and files seamlessly from one device to the other. from a voice standpoint I rarely see any lag or drops that aren't user-based problems. Discord is always improving because they care about how people receive their product, and that matters. See More

Though Discord has a paid plan (Discord Nitro), it doesn't offer much of an advantage over using it for free — all users are treated the same way. They have maintained the fact that Nitro is just for users who wish to support them, and those who pay can customize their user experience better (e.g. animated avatars) and gets beta access to new features (e.g. addition of video calls).
