It doesn't work, unless you just want to target html/js platform... Or "hashlink" eventually, as if this was somewhat relevant beyond debugging... Now maybe it works to make a build for windows... Maybe... I haven't tried I'm on linux, it can't compile an executable, on linux... Speaks volume.

HaxeFlixel does a lot of things for you like tilemaps and collision detection, which makes it super easy to create 2D games.

Cross-platform IDE environment
On Windows, the IDE of choice is FlashDevelop, but if you're looking for cross-platform IDE (Windows/Mac/Linux), there's Sublime Text which includes a package for Haxe syntax highlighting, as well as auto-completion.

Similar syntax to Actionscript 3
Haxe's syntax is similar to AS3, so Flash developers can transition to HaxeFlixel if they are familiar with AS3/Flixel.

Modelled after Flixel
But with considerable improvements -- the HaxeFlixel team are constantly working improving and fixing the HaxeFlixel API, as compared to the original Flixel which is no longer updated.

Uses Haxe
(excerpt from source): To help you do this, the (Haxe) toolkit contains three main components: the Haxe Language - a modern high-level, strictly typed programming language; the Haxe Standard Library - a complete cross-platform standard library; the Haxe Compiler - an incredibly fast cross-compiler.

Crossplatform testing/releasing
HaxePunk uses OpenFL which means you can compile to just about every device. A lot of the rendering code has been optimized so if you use HaxePunk’s graphic classes you are pretty much ready to deploy on any target.

Generic entity system
A generic Entity system that only uses what you “attach” to it. If you need collision masks they are available but if an entity doesn’t need to collide with anything then simply don’t add a mask. Same goes for graphics.

Written in Haxe instead of AS3
This comes with blazing fast compile times, proper static typing, multiple output targets, and a powerful macro system.

Multiple collision masks
HaxePunk has added several collision masks beyond what FlashPunk had including a grid with slope values, circles, and polygons. This is in addition to FlashPunk’s tile grid and hitbox.

Tweens
Tweens are available just like they are in FlashPunk. If you need to interpolate values for sounds, movement, etc… it’s probably already available as a tween. There is also a VarTween that lets you interpolate any value you want.

Joystick and multi-touch support
Useful for mobile games and soon consoles (OpenFL has a console port in the works).
