PoisedAmaethon's Experience
The app is feature-rich, actively maintained and stable. Configuring accounts is very easy with the wizard. In case of troubles, the app is actively documented with a rich FAQ, but also the developer can be contacted by email. Also, the developer has always explained things to me or fixed any troubles I had within a very short time, sometimes less than in an hour. It is the best Android app I've ever used, and I've been using Android for about 8 years now.

K-9 has long been the best email app available for Android, and that hasn't changed to this day. It's based on the original AOSP Mail app and has remained open source and respectful of privacy since the beginning. Not to mention the massive amount of features it packs!

Emails received as forwarded EML attachments are not natively supported
When you receive an email which was forwarded as an EML attachment, K-9 Mail is not able to open it natively. It opens it using a third-party application registered for this mime-type on the device, if any. The Gmail email client app is able to read the EML attachments, thus you need to have it installed as well (or any other EML capable app).

Incredibly fast, advanced & predictive search
Gmail brings much of the functionality and power of Google's search engine to the app's search. You can use operators such as label:, is:, OR, has: among others, define date ranges, limit search to specific groups and so on. And, you can do it all amazingly fast. The search will also try to predict what you're trying to search for before you've even finished your query and offer up those results.
