A lot of people associate "roguelikes" and "random." That disregards a lot of the work that roguelike developers put into making sure that a good roguelike is pretty consistent and well balanced. After winning Pixel Dungeon it can feel like it was because the random number generator smiled upon you. After losing, it can feel like it was because the random number generator just wasn't feeling it this time. Compare this to something like ADOM (no, it's not an android game) where when you die because you got attacked in the moving forest it's because you made the dumb decision to use a fire spell. A lot of people see roguelike design as being based around randomness. It's actually a far more precise set of balances than that. A lot of roguelike developers shy way from "randomly generated content" in favor of the term "procedurally generated content." The reason for this is that a well designed roguelike is well balanced enough that if you lose or win, it's all because of the actions you took. Pixel Dungeon has a habit of sometimes generating dungeons that are basically impossible and sometimes generating dungeons that are laughably easy. See More
In a true roguelike fashion, levels are randomly generated each time a new game is started. And Pixel Dungeon goes one step further by randomizing effects of all items as well so it's impossible to tell if a dropped item will have a positive or a negative effect based on its sprite. See More
From raising or lowering sails too maneuver faster and boarding ships with your crew, to transporting people from port to port and finding survivors out in the sea, this game packs a solid punch when it comes to various ways of doing the same thing. It adds logical complications to normal tasks, such as wind, and not being able to sail up against it. All in all, even if there is so much stuff to worry about, the experience is very enjoyable, and filled with surprises. See More
Although the fastest way to get around is to use a 2d map, if you wish to do so, you can jump in a ship and sail to any location in 3d. The whole map is seamless, and contained in one scene. The game even encourages the players to do so by adding hidden docks at strategic locations, giving a sum of money to the player when the ports are found. And by putting ship wrecks with treasure island maps, wich can only be reached in open world. See More
There are a few puzzle sections in the game that are all logic based, meaning no randomness to them. There are clues on how to solve them as well as direct answers scattered around each level, so for those that do get stuck, don't worry as there may be something up ahead that helps solve it. See More
