Raghu Ranganathan's Experience
Jekyll is the best static site generator I know, which I found through github. My personal site at http://razetime.github.io is hosted on jekyll and runs very well. Jekyll is simple to use if you're going for a minimalistic layout and a smaller number of pages. However, for larger websites for magazines and such I'd rather go for a CMS like Wordpress, since Jekyll gets really clunky and hard to manage with the number of posts you have to write and number of layouts you have to manage. It's more manual and values personalization, but comes at the cost of ease and use.

Interface learning curve for Python hackers.
If you want to develop your own Pelican plugin, there's a bit of a learning curve to master. The documentation isn't quite as detailed as you'd wish it were.
Peter J. Mello's Experience
Pelican does make a surprisingly coherent, tightly integrated static web site if you commit to learning how to structure your content and cross-reference between entries. In addition, it has a ridiculous amount of specialized little plugin modules, everything from complex tasks like proper SEO or imports from vastly different CMS to minor things like making sure YouTube videos embed correctly are possible with the right configuration. Oh, and did I mention it's fast? That too., like, black magic fast My only wish would be for a few more themes that offered a really polished responsive design, like a few that I've seen for Hugo. I'll live without them for the time being though; none of the other entries in this field have had the raw power I found lurking below the surface with Pelican.

Some plugins outdated / badly documented
There are some of the plugins that can break your neck. E.g. the LDAP-plugin (to attach the login to e.g. an Active Directory) has been created by the Grav team for some customer. But it is obviously so much customized, that it cannot easily be applied to different configurations. Also the documentation for the plugin is very bad. It resulted in completely breaking the site, not being able to login to the site anymore. Thanks God there is a very easy backup / restore function included. Use it!

You cannot easily switch theme
While you can easily install the theme, it doesn't automatically switch the whole site to e.g. different colors. Or if you buy a theme from one of their contributors, you can easily install it. But then the work starts with creating the site structure, where you place which widget etc. It's not that you switch the theme and get your site in a completely different look and feel. Certain conditions must apply, e.g. you have template files for all the needed widgets or parts of your site.

Easy backup / restore
The whole customizations live in one directory and as the system is file based, it can be easily backed up. The best way to backup is to use the backup function in the backend. It will create one ZIP file containing all your customizations. Restoring is then as simple as extracting the ZIP file.

Very easy to create forms for the editing in the admin backend
It is very easy to create specialized forms for adding content in the backend. This way you can easily adjust the system to your special needs. Just an example: You need a site with events, then you can easily create a form where you can place e.g. date and time fields to be entered comfortably.

No ads
You can turn on ads if you want, but you can also keep your Blogger blog ad-free. That is different from WordPress.com (free hosted WordPress) where there are ads, and you cannot do anything about it.

Bad post editor
It is a WYSIWYG html editor, and it would be a bit better if it used <p> tags. Instead it uses divs and brs everywhere, which leads to inconsistent or just crappy typography and spacing.

Limited authorization system
Sadly the authorization system is fairly limited. Co authors can post and publish, without you getting a chance to pre-check their posts as an admin. e.g. you can't give them "create" and not give them "publish" permissions. They can only edit their own posts however.

Straightforward drag & drop interface
There's a selection of elements you can choose from in the sidebar that you can drag and drop into the page and edit. There are common elements such as text, images and buttons as well as less common elements such as blog or online store. All elements can be adjusted to some extent to fit your needs. For example, you can change things like the font, weight and style of text and even crop, adjust colors and apply filters to images.
