Con Destroyed when it became VS for Mac
No updates since 2018. Doesn't compile. It's own basic projects won't compile in it. None of the plug ins work, etc. It's officially "Garbage."
Con Bad formatting
MonoDevelop doesn't offer much in terms of autocompletion and code formatting. Most of the time the automatic formatting that MonoDevelop does is annoying and not really compliant with C# guidelines.
Con No longer usable
Not cross platform anymore. has been locked down/locked out by licensing agreements by microsoft.
The version up on GitHub fails to compile except maybe for Mac. Would not recommend this, as if you can get it to work, it isn't DotNet/NetCore compatible.

The version of MonoDevelop that ships with Unity is several versions behind the main MonoDevelop branch. It also gets updated very rarely so any annoying bugs that it may have take a lot of time to get fixed.
