Common Lisp is a notable (only?) example. What should be done about an exception is a decision that might have to be made much higher in the call stack. Rather than unwinding the whole thing, this provides a way to make the decision higher up, but still resume where the exception was raised (in certain pre-defined cases), instead of starting over.
