"Atari's classic Haunted House has been completely reimagined and this iteration is nothing short of delightful so let's check it out.
Besides its goal of trying to retrieve 3 pieces of an urn, Haunted House isn't all that much like its retro counterpart so you could say that it's merely a remake in spirit. This is actually a good thing because the original is extremely simple and what we have here is much better suited for modern gamers. You play as a little kid named Lyn who's armed with a powerful flashlight and the gameplay is mostly stealth-based where you sneak around rooms while opening treasure chests and blasting your light on ghosts to evaporate them. This formula is excellent and feels like a simplified isometric take on Luigi's Mansion. I particularly enjoyed the roguelike structure where you can buy upgrades between runs and the boss fights are impressively tense despite the otherwise cute presentation on display.
With superb bosses, solid stealth gameplay, and rewarding upgrades and gadgets to utilise, Haunted House is one great Halloween game" according to Video Chums review in 2023.
