Pros
Pro Good choice for gaming
Samsung MU8000 is a decent gaming TV because of its relatively low input lag and excellent motion-blur handling capabilities.
The input lag of this TV is 24.6 ms—quick enough to provide smooth and fluid gameplay with little delay. Low input lag is an essential thing for a gaming TV as it corresponds to the time it takes for you to press a button and see the game react.
Meanwhile, the motion blur is handled by the TV’s fast-responding panel. It has an 80% response time of just 4.5 ms which means that fast moving objects don't leave noticeable trails on the screen.
Pro Good overall image quality
The MU8000 has impressive image quality in both dark or bright environments.
In a dark room, the TV can reproduce deep and rich dark scenes because of its high native contrast ratio and nicely-uniformed blacks. In this case, the MU8000 outperforms one of its main competitor: the 55-inch VIZIO P-series TV, which has around four times lower contrast ratio.
When situated in a bright room, the MU8000 does have enough luminosity to fight glare, yet its peak brightness looks a bit off, compared to other TVs in its price range.
Pro Fully compatible with current-gen consoles
The MU8000 is perfectly compatible with all the current generation gaming consoles, such as Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, and Wii U. Besides, the TV is good both for HDR and SDR console gaming as its input lag remains constant no matter is the HDR is enabled or not. In this scope, the MU8000 outperforms its closest competitor: VIZIO P-series, that a massive input lag increase when you go from SDR mode to HDR.
Pro Inputs are accessible
The Samsung MU8000 comes with a One Connect box which moves all the hard-to-access rear inputs away from the TV. In this way, you’ll always have full access to all inputs and outputs of the TV even if it’s wall-mounted. Additionally, the One Connect box can be used as a USB charging hub.
Pro Low HDR input lag
The Samsung MU8000 is an excellent TV for HDR gaming because it doesn't have a noticeable input lag increase while switching between SDR and HDR signals. The HDR input lag is actually a bit smaller than the SDR one. With HDR gaming, this TV does a way better job than some of its competitors like the VIZIO P-Series.
Pro Well-handled motion blur
The Samsung MU8000 has pretty decent motion blur handling capabilities because of its low response time. The 80% response time of this TV is only 4.5 ms, which means that it takes a pixel just 1/222th of a second to go from one state to another, so even rapidly-moving objects do not leave long trails on a screen.
Pro Perfect for 24p content
This TV is an excellent option for those who are frequently dealing with 24FPS content, such as Blu-rays or DVD movies. The TV can display such content without any judder, so all the frames stay on a screen for an equal amount of time, resulting in a smooth display. The MU8000 outperforms all its competitors, including the VIZIO P-Series and TCL P607, when it comes to handling judder.
Cons
Con Narrow viewing angle
The TV has really poor viewing angles. When the angle between the viewer and the panel reaches 19 degrees, the viewer will experience noticeable color shifting. As a result, blacks will look greyish. This color shifting property makes the TV unsuitable for watching with a group.
Con Horrible local dimming
The MU8000 comes with an edge-lit local dimming feature that was designed to give the TV the ability to display extra deep dark scenes. However, the dimming is implemented in such a way that some vertical blooming follows bright objects. Such blooming is highly unwanted because it corrupts some dark scenes.
