A small and free 2D stealth game released in 2007 by author, game dev, and videogame critic Yahtzee Croshaw. It remains to me as one of the best 2D stealth games around. The main challenge in designing 2D stealth is the fact it's almost one dimensional. Even though the game happens in a 2D environment, gravity constrains the player and AI to the ground, so you are either to the left or to the right of the AI vision. All you can do is hug the wall and walk behind enemies. While Mark of the Ninja added depth to this design by allowing a much more smooth movement and more verticality, AoT solved the issue with clever level design and by keeping the game relatively short. It's definitely a master piece in constrained game design. See More
