The Division is an open world, third person RPG shooter set in future Manhattan.
"The Division is a challenging co-op cover shooter and a gorgeous open world diminished by bloated and unnecessary RPG tropes" according to PC Gamer review in 2016.

Pros
Pro Tons of character customization
Beginning right from character creation, you have tons of options. There's several different character models, faces, voices, etc. that are available for your use. After that, the next thing you're able to customize is your gear. There's a vanity system in the game - you can find different clothes and use them to customize what your character looks like to other players.
Pro Great to play with a team or solo
The Division has a couple of options for playing, the same that most online games have. You can play solo and be just as happy as you would be with a team. Solo play encourages the player to employ different tactics for fighting bosses and generic enemies than they would on a team. For example, a solo player may focus more blowing up enemy flamethrower canisters in order to get a reprieve from being attacks and a chance to get some free damage in on them.
While on a team, the game gets both easier and harder. Enemies get significantly more health and damage when you're on a team, but that's more or less countered by your teammates doing damage as well. You also have an array of different tactics available to you, most of which are simply not possible as a solo player. The best example of this is having one heavily armored player draw the attention of a boss or strong enemy away from the team, while the rest of you blast him in the back.
Pro Open world freedom
Once the introduction to the game is played through, all missions for the game can be unlocked by just walking around the map. The player is free to choose any mission they would like to try, though some may be too tough depending on the player and mission skill level.
The game is set in a living breathing world, in addition to the primary missions you will randomly encounter a variety of side missions you can do for additional experience and rewards.
Pro You can customize your gameplay to the extreme
There are 3 major stats in The Division: firearms, stamina, and electronics. The gear you find will have these stats in different quantities, and usually two of the three on them. Firearms increases the damage and accuracy with weapons, stamina increases your health, and electronics increases the potency and decreases the cooldown (the period before you're able to use something again) of your skills. The gear you choose will have some sort of balance - one that you choose. Perhaps you want to be a heavy hitter with a ton of life, or maybe you want to be a medic that can take a hit. There's several different options you can choose.
On top of that, there's a myriad of skills for you to choose from to dictate your style of play. You can have a radar scan to see where enemies are, or have healing skills for yourself and allies, or even heat-seeking grenades that explode and light people on fire or blind your enemies.
