Some linux distros can be pure64 for various reasons. Or if you have a regular 64bit with multilib (support for 32bit binaries), it'll require a lot of extra 32bit libraries to be installed in the system, disregard you already having the same libraries as 64bit, so more space wasted. Or worse, some OS can't deal too much with multilib, so they'll need a new process to everything in 32bit. Can be an issue if you have limited resources or a machine doing some heavy stuff (audio/video processing, building stuff, etc). Isn't a big deal for a regular scenario, but the fact is they just need to compile a version that supports 64bits and they don't do it for years. For 2017 standards is quite annoying and it's a good example how Microsoft doesn't care about it. See More
